With Venus Sextile Mars, Anything is Possible
From May 15–18, we have a happy connection between Venus and Mars: Venus enters Taurus and Mars enters Cancer and, for a brief time, they are close enough to form a sextile. A sextile (60 degrees apart) brings opportunities for manifestation. You don’t have to have planets in Taurus or Cancer to access and use this positive energy, but there are a few things you do need to know—and do.
Venus is the planet of love and prosperity, named after the goddess Venus (Aphrodite in the Greek pantheon). One of her consorts was Mars (or Ares in the Greek) the god of action and war. Venus is the female archetype while Mars is the male archetype, and from this union, romantic and sexual love were born. And when these two planets line up in the sky, more than love is possible—there is also the potential financial opportunities (Venus was a wealthy goddess) and manifestation.
How does this energy affect the world?
Over the course of the year, Venus and Mars engage in a dance. Sometimes movement is difficult or clumsy, and someone’s toes might end up getting smashed. But from May 15–18, Venus and Mars swirl around in an elegant waltz. During this time, you will read and hear of deals being struck, agreements reached, and compromises. Politicians try to work together and opposing sides call a short truce. Movie and television personalities talk of love affairs and marriage. Businesses post large earnings and celebrate successes.

How does this energy affect individuals?
This energy can help you manifest your goals. It can give you a boost when you’re sending your wishes out to the universe. It can put you in the right place at the right time. The trouble with positive energy in a busy world is it can be overlooked. Most people will let this positive period pass them by because they’re not paying attention; it will just be a few pleasant days. But for a spiritually attuned person, this is energy you can use.
List these dates in your calendar, perhaps accompanied by a gold star. During this period, you’ll want to take action on your goals: Venus is the goal and Mars is the action. This is a good time to upload your profile to a dating site; it’s a good time to check out some social groups in your area; this is the right time to pop the question to your beloved, or at least broach the subject of living together. Consider putting your creative ideas out in the world—audition, pitch, or try your skills at an open mic night. Consider using this energy to ask for a raise or, if you work for yourself, to raise your rates.
Harness this energy for a little magic.
For love:
If love is your goal and you are looking for a relationship, take a small piece of paper and draw the symbol of Venus in the upper left-hand corner. In the lower right-hand corner, draw the symbol of Mars. In the center of the page write three things that need to happen for you to manifest what you want. This may be something like:
-
Meet some new people.
-
Go on a date with one that I like.
-
Agree to go out with this person exclusively.
Fold the paper diagonally so that the symbol of Venus and the symbol of Mars touch. Then keep folding until you can’t fold the paper anymore. Carry it with you in your wallet or purse during the three day Venus sextile Mars period.
For money:
If you’re looking for money. Draw the symbol of Venus in the lower left-hand corner and the symbol of Mars in the upper right-hand corner. Now, in the center, write three things that are within your power to do to manifest what you want. If you wanted a new job you might list:
-
Update my resume.
-
Post my resume.
-
Follow up on responses and take interviews.
